I have been fascinated with the state of Louisiana, lesser known as The Child of the Mississippi, since my first visit there in 1990. It is a culturally diverse location with an infectious energy and is an integral part of our national identity.
While the state has modernized with the rest of the country, I continue to photograph the many places that seem relatively unchanged for generations.
These images of every day life represent how a people, faced with many hardships, continue to persevere through community, tradition and hope.
Through this work I hope to show the beauty and resilience of a spirit that can be beaten, but never broken.
